Opera House genius gets royal recognition at last


THE Queen will rectify more than 30 years of injustice tomorrow when she publicly thanks Danish architect Joern Utzon for designing the Sydney Opera House.
Mr Utzon was snubbed during the official celebrations opening the Opera House on October 20, 1973. He had fallen out with the government and left Australia with construction of his dream incomplete.
As a million people watched, the Queen declared the Opera House open and said it had "captured the imagination of the world" and likened it to the pyramids. But she did not say who was responsible for creating it. More...
